The medical conference landscape has seen cancellations or virtual formats for the last couple of years. However, this year, almost all events have returned to the regular in-person formats. Here is a roundup of conferences Technowood has recently participated in.
The Japanese Society of Extracorporeal Technology (JaSECT), now in its 48th year, held its annual meeting at the Sendai International Center last October 20-21, 2023. It was held concurrently with the 76th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery.
This year's theme is "Catch the Future." Recent years have brought new and exciting developments in the cardiothoracic surgery field like robotic-assisted surgery, hybrid coronary revascularization and medical information and communication technologies (ICT). These emerging technologies have the potential to transform the healthcare field and healthcare providers have to be on the forefront to provide the best care to patients.
The event showcases selected abstracts, training seminars and sessions with special emphasis on intraoperative monitoring systems, automated control in heart-lung machines, cardioplegia strategies and ECMO management.
The International Symposium on Triglyceride/Neutral Lipid and Rare Diseases was held on October 21-22 at the Kyoto International Conference Center. This symposium focuses on diseases and conditions in which triglyceride accumulates in the liver, kidneys and arteries. The goal is to improve the understanding of the pathology, progression and treatment of these triglyceride-related rare diseases and to share the information among researchers and healthcare professionals. Unlike regular medical conferences, this symposium also encouraged the participation of patients and the general public. The event featured 12 sessions over two days with invited speakers from the UK, Netherlands, Australia, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and the US.
Technowood sponsored the luncheon seminar for the second day of the symposium. Dr. Hiroyuki Yamamoto of Tokyo Medical University was invited to be the seminar chairperson. The first lecture given by Dr. Yasumasa Tsukamoto explained the history and indications for myocardial biopsy and provided a detailed explanation of how to efficiently and safely perform the procedure. The next lecture from Dr. Yoshihiko Ikeda was about the current status of amyloidosis diagnosis and research in Japan. He also advocated for more healthcare professionals to take advantage of the Amyloidosis Differential Diagnosis Consultation service.
