The medical conference landscape in Japan is gradually recovering; though many are now adopting the hybrid approach of having both in-person and virtual format as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is a roundup of events Technowood has participated in this month.
The 44th Cardiac Biopsy Conference (CABIC) hosted by Okayama University was held virtually on November 11-12, 2022. CABIC is an annual conference where healthcare professionals from all over Japan present a variety of discussions and case presentations focused on cardiac biopsy.
This year’s theme was “Understanding the role of cardiac biopsy in pathology and treatment.” Cardiac biopsy is not only a tool for diagnosing various myocardial diseases but it is also useful in establishing etiology and pathology which might influence treatment decision-making. With this in mind, the academic committee invited 3 experts to talk about the current pitfalls in cardiac biopsy; multicenter consensus on evaluating idiopathic cardiomyopathy; and the use of AI in evaluating cardiac biopsies.
Several presentations were devoted to cardiac amyloidosis (AL), transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR), Fabry’s disease, as well as histological findings related to COVID-19. There were also discussions on current cardiomyopathy and heart failure treatment strategies.
The joint hybrid conference of the 2nd Annual Meeting of Kanto Koshinetsu for Clinical Engineers in Kanagawa and 5th Annual Meeting of the Kanagawa Association for Clinical Engineers was held at Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center on November 13, 2022.
This year’s theme was “Becoming a brave and trusted clinical engineer.” The conference aim to boost the knowledge and expertise of the attendees to help transform the clinical engineering community to be trusted providers of care for patients in Japan. As such multiple hands-on practical seminar and special lectures covering the fundamentals were the highlights of the conference.
The 47th Annual Meeting of Japanese Society of Extracorporeal Technology (JaSECT) was held on November 19-20, 2022 at Fukuoka Convention Center. JaSECT, now in its 47th year, is an annual meeting bringing together healthcare professionals involved in extracorporeal perfusion care. While there was no virtual live-streaming during the event, sessions will be available for viewing on-demand for registrants.
The conference theme this year was “Harmony. Connections. Fellowship ~ Innovation and Success.” Effective patient care in extracorporeal circulation involves collaborative effort from various health care practitioners, including physicians, nurses, clinical engineers and others. By increasing the team members’ awareness, knowledge and skills, this can lead to continued improvement and technological innovation which can then be passed on to the next generation of health care professionals.
The event showcased selected abstracts, training seminars and international sessions with special emphasis on team strategies and new technologies, such as robot-assisted surgery and minimally invasive extracorporeal circulation.
